Proverbs 3:1-4
“My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:
For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.
Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:
So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.”
Proverbs chapter 3 starts out with the words "My son." What mother in her right mind would not want her sons and daughters to have what verses 2-4 list?
Deuteronomy 8:6 “Therefore thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, to walk in His ways, and to fear Him.”
God promises good things to those who fear Him and keep His commandments.
-length of days, long life, peace
-mercy and truth
-favor and good understanding in the sight of God and man
Just as I must obtain wisdom from God, so my children must obtain wisdom from God personally. I cannot make them have these things. I cannot pass them down to them.
I can purpose with God's help to live my life seeking these things in my own life. I can pray for my children to desire to obtain these intangible treasures God wants us to have. I can teach them the benefits of wisdom.
Proverbs 3:16-18
“Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour.
Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.
She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.”
-length of days, riches and honor
-pleasant ways, peaceful paths
-tree of life, happiness
