"But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart." – I Samuel 16:7
"That God seeth the secrets of our heart, is a point terrible to the wicked but joyful to the godly." – William Struther {Spurgeon's Treasury of David}
It is a comfort to know that God does see past the countenance into the soul. He sees the struggling one who gathers just enough strength to get up in the morning. He sees the one who is overwhelmed with pressures that seem to rarely release. He sees the continued weariness. He sees her heart and her desires that no one else sees. He does know. He does not condemn for not performing enough good deeds or looking perfect. Instead, He builds and whispers in His ways,
"The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee." -Jeremiah 31:3
It is then that this dear child of God can rise up, take heart, and go on. He sees her inner effort that is unseen to man. The courage comes from God. He strengthens and helps. He is faithful to His Words.
"Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness." – Isaiah 41:10
Be thankful for a living God Who sees our hearts. He sees the good, the bad, and the ugly, yet He never stoops to engage in oppression, though He allows it. His Truth {not what man sees or says} sets us free! His love is true, and includes judgment and mercy. His heart is forever faithful. We never have to question His desire to bless us. He answers prayers, yet He blesses us in many unexpected ways… because He sees the heart.
